There are lots of patterns to be found when you start to analyse numbers and lottery results. But how do you know when you’ve found something useful?

Historical Patterns

One way people commonly use to examine lottery games is to get a set of all the past results. They load those results up into a spreadsheet program such as Excel or Open Office Calc. Then they start to do some counts and totals, maybe a bit of statistical analysis using some fairly complicated formulas.

But stop right there a moment.

Why is it that we even begin to do this kind of analysis? Why do we think that counting how many times a number has been drawn in the past will help us?

The answer seems to be based more in human psychology than in any logical reason Because we do like to believe there is a special way to ‘beat the lottery’. And all we have to do is uncover it’s special secrets.

But the reality is that the numbers drawn in any lottery game are just as random as tossing a coin or rolling dice.

And when you roll a dice and record how many times numbers are rolled, it really doesn’t help you to predict what comes next.

Just for fun, try it and see. Compare your best prediction against pengeluaran sdy  t randomly picking a number. If it doesn’t work for a simple game like rolling a dice, it’s certainly not going to be any use for a far more complex game like a lottery which typically has 10 times as many numbers.

The problem is that lottery companies have designed these games to be this way. They have to be fair and random otherwise they are no longer legal.

But What About ‘Bias’?

It’s certainly possible for a small amount of bias to be present in any random way of drawing numbers. Your dice could favour a 6 slightly more than a 5 for example.

But when it comes to a lottery draw machine any bias towards any particular numbers is going to be tiny. They are built to very precise specifications, and tested extensively.

There are also so many other factors at play that trying to track any bias is in all practical terms impossible. Especially when you consider that any bias is going to change over time as the balls and the machines suffer wear.

We also don’t know when even the major factors affecting bias change, such as when a machine is repaired or serviced. Or when the balls are replaced by new ones.

So What Can You Do?

If you enjoy analysing and messing around with spreadsheets, no problem. Lots of people do. So keep doing what’s fun.

But if you don’t, then you can safely relax in the knowledge you are not missing out. You’re just as likely to win by picking your own numbers as using any numbers created by looking for patterns in results with a spreadsheet.
